READ É Thai Lottery... and Other Stories from Pattaya, Thailand ¿ Thai Lottery and Other Stories from Pattaya Thailand is a collection of thirteen works by author Matt Carrell Sarai wasn't like the other go go dancers She knew that a few thousand pounds a year would be enough to take care of her whole family but SaraiLottery was dangerous than she could ever have imagined and now she owed a great deal of money Thai Lottery is the story of the lengths a girl will go to when a debt becomes a matter of life and death and of the westerners who have bought their own tickets to a personal lottery They come to Thailand looking for something that's missing from their lives Some may be. There is a plethora of writing around on the Thai bar scene and to my mind these books fall into one of two categoriesThe first type of book revels in the salaciousness of the situation freuently contains graphic sexual scenes and reads like it was written to gratify some animal urges of the author rather than for the entertainment of the reader although I accept there are people around who enjoy this sort of thing even if it is badly written which many of these books are Degradation is a freuent themeThe second type of book takes a objective journalistic approach and seeks to understand both the cultural forces at work and the economic and psychological factors involved Moreover the narrative rather than lewdness takes centre stageThe vignettes of 'Thai Lottery' fit firmly within the second category Carrell paints pictures of damaged often confused or desperate people and gives a taste of the 'real' Pattaya the misery and delusion behind the mask of smilesThis is a well written and thoughtful collection of stories which I am happy to recommend The purient reader may want to pass on this but for those of you who are interested in Thailand you should grab a copy

Thai Lottery... and Other Stories from Pattaya, Thailand ↠ Thai Lottery and Other Stories from Pattaya Thailand is a collection of thirteen works by author Matt Carrell Sarai wasn't like the other go go dancers She knew that a few thousand pounds a year would be enough to take care of her whole family but Sarai wasn't dancing just to send money home every month She had discovered that selling tickets for the illegal Thai. I received a copy of this book through Good ReadsUnfortunately my initial review got deleted before I saved it so I'm going to try my best to repeat what I had written This book is definitely not one of the typical type of book that I would pick up but I am glad that I did because I rather enjoyed it For the most part the book contains several stories which are fairly light hearted although there are parts of the book where it goes into a bit depth with some topics like political stuff the tsunami history of Pattaya etc but keep in mind those stuff are only touched upon briefly but it does give you an idea of how Pattay is tied into it The stories all take place in Pattaya ThailandThe bulk of the stories are told through the point of view of the foreign guys The adventures and encounters that the guys experience were certainly interesting to read There are a few stories where we get to explore the background and stories of the ladies of Pattaya's infamous sex industry and see through their point of view I would love to have a few stories told through the ladies' point of view It took some adjusting but I like how ThaiThai English was injected into the stories and are relatively easy to pick up plus there was a mini dictionary in the back of the book to help you along The descriptions were well done and does not go on for pages describing something unlike some books enough for your imagination to take flight Another thing I enjoyed was that the main focus of the stories were on the interaction and thoughts of the main characters with others be it the ladies or other guys and how the author didn't incorporate descriptions of explicit sexual acts as it would have been completely unnecessary and given the tendency of other authors to do so It is hard to scrape just beyond the surface of Pattaya's infamous industry but the author does a very good job at getting you started There were a few stories that were very interesting and the mini plot twists were rather unexpected although some of the stories were a little bland compared to the exciting stories However see how this is a somewhat light read it's not too bad Overall this book is definitely an interesting read This book might not be for everyone but it's definitely worth a try if you are looking for some light reading Mind you it's not a completely mindless type of light reading and be prepared for some shocking moments READ ´ REFLECTIONSLISBURNLTD.CO.UK ↠ Matt Carrell

Matt Carrell ↠ 1 READ Lucky but for a few the result will be utter despair Thai Lottery and twelve other short stories are contained in this intriguing debut work An insightful must read whether you're a seasoned traveller to Thailand or embarking on your first trip to the Land of Smiles Keywords Pattaya Thailand bars bar girls Bangkok massage girlfriend go go money expats expatriates. An insightful read about Thailand I hoped it would talk about common thai people and less about bar girls and farang but I still loved it I love Thailand and now I know something of what I like less about it The sex market the drugs the bad side of people But at least the stories were focused on justice and retribution and I loved the taste of it In typical thay stile the book is composed by various short and really short story which are independent but still linked to one another It is sometimes difficult to find the links but it was a plus that I really liked
