Nightmare CityPty except for an eerie creeping fog and whatever creatures were slowly moving toward him through the fogNow Tom’s once ordinary world has become something out of a horror movie How did it happen Is it real Is he dreaming Has there been a zombie apocalypse Has he died and gone to hellTom is a good reporter he knows how. Full disclosure I received a free copy through Goodreads' giveaways I have to say it wasn't the WORST book I've ever read That's about the highest praise I can give itview spoilerThe Good It was an interesting take on the and then I realized it was all a DREAM trope HoweverThe Bad Oh no There's a sinister fog and it's getting closer And there are zombies in the fog RUN It was ridiculously predictable Do we really need 15 descriptions of the girlfriend’s smile Also he’s been “in love” with her since the 3rd grade but we don’t know anything about her except that she’s beautiful and rich She is described as a “porcelain doll” and uses the word “daddy” If you’re looking for a way to alienate your potential female readers this is it I feel the author is treating his readers like 1950’s businessmen treat their secretaries sure they’re nearly adults but you really can’t expect them to know or understand much Examples“It was a man in blue scrubs those pajama like outfits doctors wear” REALLY I’ve read less painful definitions in children’s books Does this author really expect teenagers to have no idea what scrubs are despite the fact that there is an insanely popular tv show of the same name “Suspension That was not good That was bad in fact Yes I'm sure the high schoolers reading your book had no idea This is one of the books that I feel I can “see through” to the author especially during the parts that felt patronizing I felt absolutely no connection to the protagonist This could have something to do with the fact that I am female see point 1 hide spoiler
